Immediately I thought of my current office location. I moved to Wu Chung House, the building next to Hopewell Centre in the Queen's Road East, back in 2004. At first I was quite unease about the new office 'cos the building is quite far away from the main office in the HKCEC (thus I commute between Wu Chung House and HKCEC almost every day - a waste of time!), plus it's a challenge during lunch time, and the environment is too "residential". But now I'm used to my life in Wu Chung House already after all these years. But still, when I read this article, I thought about my office location again.

(QUOTE from MSN) Autodesk is one among a raft of tech companies, including Google (GOOG), Microsoft (MSFT), and newer players like professional networking Web site LinkedIn, striving for that same San Francisco symbiosis. These companies have long occupied suburbs to the south, east, and north of the city. Now they see expansion downtown as a way to attract and retain some of the brightest talent, quicken the travel time to meetings, and impress customers from around the world. "There's a lot of talent we can attract" who don't live near Google's Mountain View, Calif. headquarters 36 miles south, says engineering manager Julie Pearl, who works in San Francisco. "It's very appealing for folks." Soaring gas prices have only enhanced the appeal of ditching a 40-mile commute.(UNQUOTE)
Spent 20 minutes in the video game shop together ... but to my surprise, most of the machines and games are pretty old already ... I can still see some soccer games, some fighting/action games ... and of course car-racing games are there too! Most people inside the shop are in their twenties. So, you can imagine that I seldom watch such games except during the World Cup (I went to Germany for World Cup 2006) period.

Coincidentally, the first match of the Euro 2008 falls onto a Saturday and more importantly, live broadcast was available in TVB. I thus spent a "sleepless" night on it last night. To make the whole experience even more entertaining and exciting, I logon the Hong Kong Jockey Club website to learn more about the teams and of course placed some bets. It's been quite a long while since I bet on football matches again. I still recall that I won several thousands HKD a few years ago with my bet on Arsenal. But I feel that betting on football matches doesn't offer good odds, thus I was very quiet in recent years in this thing.

So about the bet last night, how was it? I won several hundred dollars in the match between Switzerland (one of the hosts of the Euro 2008) & Czech Republic. Will try my luck again tonight on the match between another host, Austria Vs Croatia.
Brad's Cyberspace - The Official Web of Bradford Lee from Hong Kong (http://www.bradfordlee.com)

CRM in Taxi

I met a sophisticated taxi driver today.

When I was in a taxi traveling from my office in Wanchai to SOHO in Central for dinner after work, I saw a large PDA (pretty old model of 02 but the screen is huge!) in front of the driver. For no reason, I asked the driver if he keeps his customers' contacts and frequent travel routes in that PDA and to my surprise, he did! You won't believe that taxi drivers have better CRM than some companies ...
Brad's Cyberspace - The Official Web of Bradford Lee from Hong Kong (http://www.bradfordlee.com)

Talk Show

I watched a talk-show last night for the first time.

Part 2>, Jan Lamb continues to make use of his talents in telling the audiences different amusing jokes. Whether the jokes are about the Hong Kong society, men, mothers or foul language, everybody laughed to death.

Perhaps this kind of show is kind of meaningless in a sense, but I feel that it really heals people and help them relax - at least for a few hours.

It was fun!
Brad's Cyberspace - The Official Web of Bradford Lee from Hong Kong (http://www.bradfordlee.com)

Free Parking for Drivers in Skirts

You may have exhausted those Times Square, IFC, PP, Harbour City, Elements or the Olympian City. I even went to the CityWalk of the Vision City in Tsuen Wan a few weeks ago. So if you're looking for somewhere, probably a shopping mall, to hea this weekend,

If you're looking for a shopping mall to "hea" this weekend, the Plaza Hollywood (荷李活廣場) in the Diamond Hill area is an interesting one 'cos it offers free parking with no spending requirement as long as you're in a skirt (most likely a lady!?) when settling the payment in the shroff. This is really my first time to know that banks and card companies don't allow shops to charge extra for credit card payment. But there is still a loophole that shops can choose to accept credit card payment for amount above a certain amount ...

There are increasing number of people now using Octopus Card in supermarkets. Same case for credit card. When I print some photos in FotoMax this week, I saw that they offer 10% discount if I pay with Hang Seng Bank credit card. So I paid HKD34.9 with my Hang Seng credit card. I like that!

To better prepare for the demo, the team did several rehearsal yesterday and reminded our vendor to ensure a stable environment for the demo. I woke up at 6am this morning and went back to office early in the morning to check presentation venue and facilities. We again did a number of rehearsals and were quite comfortable and confident 'cos we saw that the website performance was good (except that we spotted a bug!)

When it came to the actual demo, my boss began as planned in the rehearsal but all of a sudden a feature really important didn't work. The atmosphere was kind of embarrassing as you could imagine. We switched to another server immediately and then the demo was fine. But you know it looked a bit bad and more importantly it was not doing us justice given all the preparation we have put in.
